Sculpture & visual art

Sculpture is a relatively new departure for me, and the Madonna and Child in this selection of photographs was my first completed sculpture. This began from a very humble origin: a beautiful old beech tree outside my office was damaged by the storms in the autumn of 2000 and had to be felled. Although this was terribly sad, it did provide a source of wood, and in particular, introduced me to the delights of wood which has broken along the grain. Since then I have found myself drawn to a very minimalist style of sculpture, which works with the textures already present in the wood.
